OSTA Outstanding Science Teacher Awards

(Regional and State)

 

The OSTA Outstanding Science Teacher Awards (Regional and State) are nominated by colleagues, administrators, and other involved in science education.  These awards are meant to recognize and honor the work of the outstanding science teachers in Oregon. The recipients are selected based on their ability to motivate student achievement and excitement in science, community and administrative support, ability to support and mentor new and preservice teachers, and overall contributions to the profession. This year’s awardees are:

 

Region 7  (Wallowa, Union, Baker, and Malheur counties)

Anne Marie Fritz – LaGrande Middle School

Omar Stubblefield – North Powder High, North Powder

 

Region 6 (Jefferson, Crook, Deschutes, Lake, and Harney counties)

Todd Andresen – Mountain View High, Bend

Mark McGarigal – Summit High School, Bend

Shay Mikalson – Redmond High, Redmond (Early Career Teacher)

 

Region 5 (Hood River, Sherman, Wasco, Gilliam, Wheeler, Morrow, Umatilla, and Grand counties)

Carol Chapman – Sam Boardman Elementary, Boardman

Lisa Stephen- McNary Height Elementary, Umatilla (Early Career Teacher)

Duane Neifer – Ione High School, Ione  

Region 4 (Curry, Josephine, Jackson, and Klamath counties)

Charles Shannon – Henly High, Klamath Falls

Janean Nodine – Eagle Point Middle, Eagle Point

Maureen Lundy – Pelican Elementary, Klamath Falls  

Region 3 (Coos, Douglas, Lane, counties)

George Tinker – Marshfield Sr. High, Coos Bay

Andy Crocker – Oakland High, Oakland (Early Career Teacher)

Angie Ruzicka – Cal Young Middle, Eugene

Suzanne Champion – Lincoln Middle School, Oakland  

Region 2 (Tillamook, Yamhill, Polk, Marion, Benton, and Lincoln counties)

Greg Craven – Central High, Independence (Early Career Teacher)

Gary Miller – McNary High, Keizer

Virginia Winston – Memorial Middle, Albany  

Region 1 (Clatsop, Columbia, Washington, Multnomah, and Clackamas counties)

George Penk – Wilson High, Portland

Joel Morgan – Southridge High, Beaverton

Rachel Marble - Southridge High, Beaverton (Early Career Teacher)

 

The Oregon Science Teacher Association Board of Director Awards

 

The Fred Fox Distinguished Service to Science Education Award.  This award is named in honor of Fred Fox, a distinguished and well-loved teacher educator now retired from Oregon State University.  The award is intended to honor those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to mentoring and developing new teachers.

 

Dr. Marj Enneking – Portland State University

 

Mike Ellison- Director Northwest Science Expo

 

The Duane Marshall Special Service to Science Education Award.  Duane Marshall was an outstanding career teacher from Newberg High School, active in OSTA, and an important contributor to science education in Oregon.  This award in his name is intended to honor those individuals whom have made significant contributions to science teaching.

 

Donna Rainboth – Eastern Oregon University

 

The Thor Sabo Special Service to the Oregon Science Teachers Association Award.  This award is named in honor of Thor Sabo, a teacher at Hillsboro High School for many years who also served OSTA as President, Executive Director, and who was responsible for helping organize many annual conferences.  This award will be given to an individual who has made significant and long-term contributions of time and effort to supporting the mission of OSTA and to facilitate excellence and continuous improvement in science education.
