Tour the Sky/Tour Observatories this October

2003 OSTA Annual Conference

...

Rick Kang, Friends of Pine Mountain Observatory

Friday evening, at High Desert Museum, we will assemble a group of large

portable telescopes through which you will be able to view a number of

celestial delights.  Mars should still appear quite large and you should

be able to view details well as Mars will be higher in the sky earlier in

the evening by October.  We will be competing with a Full Moon but the

clear Central Oregon skies should help us readily pick out several of the

interesting "fuzzies".

For Saturday afternoon we will offer a tour of Pine Mountain Observatory

by sign-up on Friday at Summit High School.  During Saturday's tour you

should be able to view solar prominences through the Hydrogen-Alpha filter

on one of the portable telescopes, and can glimpse actual stars and

perhaps Jupiter in the daytime sky through the large 24" diameter

telescope
