During this interactive webcast, C Greene will share about what it looks like to teach in ways that are culturally responsive and sustaining for Indigenous youth, including selecting culturally relevant phenomena and problems to anchor units, as well as formative assessment tools that reflect cultural values. As a community of teachers and learners, we will share our own personal cultural values and discuss ways to incorporate them into science learning so that all students can see themselves represented in the science classroom.
C. Greene is a citizen of the Nez Perce Tribe. Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) culture and traditions emphasize a deep relationship with the environment, and drive her academic, professional, and personal endeavors. She has her BS in Chemistry from Northern Arizona University (2012), and will graduate in June with her MS degree in Science Teaching from Portland State University. C. serves on the Nez Perce Tribe General Council Resolutions Committee, Wisdom of the Elders Board of Directors, and recently accepted a position as Native Environmental Science faculty at Northwest Indian College.
